Mesothelioma Survivors

Though mesothelioma does not have a known cure and a discouraging low survival rate, many patients have known to turn the tide in their favor and live full lives against all odds. They have successfully taken the disease on and have proactively decided to give themselves the chance of a better, healthier and happier life. Proper medication, radical treatment methods, hope, a survival spirit and the ability to follow a healthy lifestyle can dramatically enhance a person's survival rate. It is also important for the patient to equip himself with all the available information to fight the deadly disease along with developing a strong will power to overcome any adversity.

Mesothelioma is an aggressive form of cancer which attacks the outer lining of the lungs. Dealing with it involves not just physical and suffering but also huge medical bills and costly complementary therapies. However, with the help of specialized oncologists, knowledgeable lawyers, encouraging loved ones and other support groups, one can effectively defeat the disease.

Paul Kraus

One of the most prominent survivors of mesothelioma, Paul Kraus, had a deep desire to fight the disease the natural way. He was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma in 1997, when the doctors had given up all hope of his survival and told him to get all his affairs in place. Today, 14 years after the initial diagnosis, he is still alive and a hope for many mesothelioma patients. Kraus was determined to take matters in his own hands and drastically set about changing his entire lifestyle for fighting the disease. He adopted a completely vegetarian diet comprising anti-cancer foods like fresh organic fruits and vegetables, nuts, cereals and grains. He also stuck to fresh juices and complemented his wholesome diet with vitamin supplements to boost the immune system. Kraus also took to ozone therapy to complement his healthy lifestyle.

Rhio O'Connor

Rhio O'Connor is another famous mesothelioma survivor who had an extremely poor prognosis at the onset. He was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma in 2001 and was subsequently informed by his doctors that his odds with chemotherapy were slim. Doctors told him that he had less than a year to live and that chemotherapy treatments would diminish the quality of his life. Surgery was not an option due to the tumor's location. O'Connor was determined to combat the disease holistically. After the diagnosis, he developed a natural cure strategy that included consuming 100 supplements a day along a nutritious diet and several mind-body medicines.

Though medical practitioners cannot provide a definitive guideline for why some mesothelioma patients outlive others, experts point to a link between therapies that develop the strength of the immune system such as immunology.

The patient's general health and lifestyle habits prior to the diagnosis also determine his/her success with aggressive treatment methods and subsequently his/her chances of survival. For instance, smokers generally have weaker lungs that make them respond to the treatment unfavorably.
